I was born in Stamford, Connecticut and currently live in beautiful Bethel, Maine. I studied Oil Painting at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachussets, graduating in 1983. My early paintings were very dark and shadowy expressionist works with lots of thick paint and texture. I moved to Bridgton, Maine in 1984 where I lived in a country farmhouse for eleven years. My work from this period was still formed with expressionist strokes, but brighter and bolder colors replaced much of the darkness of my earlier works. In 1995, I moved to Portland, Maine and in 1997 my daughter Kasmira Eden Weinberg was born. Kasmira began painting at a very young age we have shared our studio spaces together ever since, often painting side by side. Kasmira’s influence is shown in my work as it has become increasingly more simplistic and minimalist over time. This evolution has manifested itself with a change in medium from Oil Painting to working with Acrylic Paints, which has always been Kasmira’s medium. Still, whether its the thickly painted Oil Painting The Punk painted in 1978 or the quickly executed Acrylic Painting The Punk ’09 painted in 2009, the Paintings share the lineage that make them uniquely Jason Weinberg Paintings.
